In his debut with the New York Jets, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers sustained a suspected Achilles injury during their game against the Buffalo Bills. This four-time NFL Most Valuable Player, who recently moved from the Green Bay Packers in the off-season, suffered the injury in the first quarter after a sack by Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd.

Jets coach Robert Saleh expressed concern about Rodgers’ Achilles injury, stating, “We’re concerned with his Achilles; it’s not looking good.” Despite this setback, the Jets managed to secure a 22-16 overtime victory at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Rodgers’ arrival at the Jets had generated considerable excitement as the franchise aimed to break their 12-year playoff drought. The 39-year-old quarterback had spent his entire NFL career with the Green Bay Packers and won a Super Bowl with them in 2011.

Unfortunately, Rodgers’ debut with the Jets was short-lived, lasting just over three minutes. He suffered an awkward landing on his left ankle and spent several minutes on the field before being assisted off by the medical team. The team later confirmed that X-rays did not reveal any broken bones but announced that an MRI would likely confirm the extent of the injury.

Coach Saleh expressed empathy for Rodgers, acknowledging the quarterback’s significant investment in the team, saying, “I hurt for Aaron and how much he has invested in all of this. I’m still going to hold out hope. But my heart’s with Aaron right now, nobody else.”

In Rodgers’ absence, Zach Wilson, the Jets’ regular quarterback for the past two years, took over and completed 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards, including one touchdown and one interception. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Buffalo reserve safety Damar Hamlin, who had previously suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in January, was present at the game but was not included in the matchday squad.
