Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks that shook the nation. To pay tribute to the lives lost, Minnesota is stepping forward.

Governor Tim Walz has ordered that flags across all state buildings be flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday. He also encourages every Minnesotan to join in observing the national moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. Central Time, marking the time when the first World Trade Center tower was struck.

In the northwest metro, a special 9/11 memorial service and golf tournament, organized by The Front Line Foundation, will commence at 12 p.m. Monday. The focus of this event is to honor the sacrifices made by first responders during the tragic attack.

The organizers of the golf tournament shared their thoughts at Edinburgh USA Golf Club in Brooklyn Park early Monday morning. For more insight, you can watch the interview in the video above.

Golfers are expected to tee off around 12:30 p.m. If you wish to contribute to The Front Line Foundation’s cause, you can do so by clicking here.

Throughout the nation, remembrance ceremonies are planned for Monday. President Joe Biden will attend an observance at a military base in Alaska as he returns from his trip to Asia.

Meanwhile, on Sunday night, lights illuminated the sky at the same location where the World Trade Center towers once stood before the tragic attacks, serving as a test ahead of Monday night’s ceremony.

It’s a solemn reminder that 2,753 lives were lost in Manhattan alone that fateful day. Since then, 341 members of New York City’s Fire Department have tragically succumbed to ground-zero-related illnesses.

James Brosi, president of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, reflects on the toll that day took: “Unfortunately, the exposure of that day and the days that followed during the rescue and recovery efforts have really started to take its toll. My brother was also in the collapse at the time. He has some other debilitating side effects from that exposure as well.”

Just this weekend, the remains of two more victims were identified.

While President Biden is in Alaska, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband will participate in the annual observance ceremony in New York.
