MINNEAPOLIS — Nebraska receiver Marcus Washington missed the first half on Thursday due to a team-imposed suspension related to “academic concerns,” according to coach Matt Rhule.

Washington, a senior wideout, is the team’s top returning receiver, having recorded 31 catches for 471 yards and one touchdown last season.

Although he participated in pregame warmups, Washington didn’t see any action until the third quarter. This decision had been made during the summer, with Washington working through injuries during training camp.

“It was good to see him get out there and fly around,” Rhule commented. “He’s healthy… Moving forward, I think he’ll be a key contributor for us.”

Washington joined the offense during the second drive of the second half, making a 17-yard reception over the middle on a play-action pass. He finished the game with three catches for 31 yards.
