The 2023-24 NBA season is fast approaching, and it’s that time again to assess player rankings to gauge their standing in the league. It’s an opportunity to evaluate where both teams and individual players stand as they gear up for the upcoming season.

The Philadelphia 76ers boast a roster brimming with talent, and as customary with such rankings, they tend to feature prominently.

According to HoopsHype’s latest rankings for power forwards heading into the forthcoming season, Tobias Harris of the Philadelphia 76ers secures the 17th spot:

Tobias Harris, the 76ers’ power forward, earns recognition as one of the league’s better role players in this position. His strengths lie in his proficiency in outside shooting, ball-handling abilities, and versatility. However, one aspect of concern is his salary, which places him among the top 20 earners for the 2023-24 season, despite his on-court performance not quite aligning with that elite level.

Nevertheless, Harris’s skills are evident—he can spot up for three-pointers, execute face-up jump shots against smaller defenders, post up effectively, and maneuver past slower opponents. Furthermore, he contributes as a versatile defender capable of guarding multiple positions, albeit not necessarily at an expert level in each case.

Harris is entering a contract year, raising curiosity about whether he might adopt a more self-centered approach to shot selection or continue with another season of modest scoring output (his average of 14.7 points per game last season marked his lowest since 2015-16). If the Philadelphia 76ers aim to progress beyond the second round of the playoffs, a feat not achieved since 2000-01, they might require an elevated performance from Harris.

Harris undeniably remains one of the league’s more productive players. As the 76ers’ fourth option alongside Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey, he fulfills his role admirably. His shooting percentages—50.1% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc—are precisely what Philadelphia seeks.

The primary concern remains his salary, but when evaluating his raw statistics, it’s evident that Harris consistently delivers as a dependable and efficient contributor for the Sixers on a nightly basis.
